Bunker Survey
Onhire and offhire bunker surveys are frequently required to be performed in conjunction with a condition survey. We also offer separate onhire and offhire bunker surveys and condition surveys. It is also common for it to be performed in collaboration with the other interested party, who may represent either the vessel owners or charterers. This survey is performed onboard the vessel at the beginning and/or end of the chartering period to assess the vessel’s overall condition. The onhire offhire condition survey examines the navigation bridge, accommodation, machinery areas, holds, main deck, cargo working areas, and external shell plating of the vessel. It is done to identify any damage present before the vessel goes on/off hire.
Our surveyors became experts in vessel analysis after years of doing it repeatedly. Every bulkhead, ladder, pipe, corrugate, lower and upper hoppers, bilge, tank top plating, manhole, hatch coaming, hatch covers, and other structure is examined by an experienced professional. Nomadic Survey begins onhire offhire bunker surveys at berthing time, before the start of a loading operation, or at the end of a discharging operation, in order to inspect the holds without cargo inside.
Our company details the inspection findings in the Survey Report, which includes the anomalies discovered, general vessel information, relevant documents, and a photography list demonstrating the vessel’s actual condition. Nomadic Survey strives to complete the inspection and issue the Survey Report within three working days. This survey is compared to the vessel’s previous condition survey to determine if new damage has occurred as a result of cargo operations and/or stevedores damage.
The Surveyor conducts soundings of all bunker tanks and corrects soundings to the vessel’s trim and heel to determine tank volume. Then temperature and specific gravity corrections are applied to determine the actual number of bunkers on board at the time/location of survey. The Surveyor examines the vessel’s consumption, as well as the engine log book and chartering details, to determine the amount of bunkers remaining on board at the time of delivery/redelivery.
The bunker survey is required to determine the exact number of bunkers on board at the time of vessel delivery/redelivery. In the case of On-Hire, the vessel is delivered by the owner to the charterer. Typically, at this point, the Master issues a “Delivery Certificate” stating the location, time, parties involved, and total number of bunkers on board. In the event of redelivery, the vessel is returned to the owner by the charterer at the end of the chartering (Off Hire), when the “Redelivery Certificate” is issued.
